Sculpture and Social

On Wednesday the 20th of September the Media group attended the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in West Bretton. The aim of the trip to go out and take photos of the sculptures for our blogs, to begin develop and shaping them. But also as a bonding session between the group, as we have all come from different places to begin university life. As well as this university is a new experience for us all, and a journey we will go through together.

The group of us met in the morning at 10AM to head off on the short coach journey of forty-five minutes to the park. When we arrived we were hit with the cool air of the open space of the high up scenic hills and surroundings. We then split from the big group into smaller groups. I was joined by Harriet, Steph and Clo a group of girls, who I am now sure will be my friends throughout my Media course which is really comforting. We all began to walk through wet grassy fields finding sculptures dotted around the park. We began taking pictures on my Cannon Camera and on our iPhone’s, to later post on the blog. The mix of scenic views and the sculptures along with a little sun was a pleasant way to spend the morning.

After walking for an hour or so we decided to head to the café to seek rest and some lunch. While we sat in the café the group of us discussed where we were from and why we chose to study media and why in the city of Sheffield. The main reason was similar between us all, that we loved Sheffield as a city as it felt safe and homely, also having a wide range of bars and clubs for the social side of university life. As for the course at Sheffield Hallam, it ticked our boxes of what we wanted to do within the course modules and the tutors seemed enthusiastic to teach us in a way that would be interesting.

After lunch and a couple more hours of talking between students and tutors we got back onto the coach and headed back to the university to depart for the evening to enjoy more of fresher’s week. Overall the day was nice to go out somewhere spacious and make new friends in a clam environment to come back to University knowing people better on a more comfortable level.
